JAMES HARGREAVES GUITAR

Frequently asked questions

What age students do you teach?
I teach people of all ages, adults, teenagers, retirees and children.

Can I request songs to learn?
Absolutely! If your heart is set on learning a specific song, please let me know and I will see what I can do.

Do I need my own instrument?
Yes, you must have your own guitar for online guitar lessons.

Which official qualifications can I work towards with you?
Many of my students have chosen to take a guitar grade exam. For guitar students I generally recommend RSL Grade Exams (with whom I am proud to have a 100% pass rate). Rockschool music examinations are available & recognised worldwide. Visit www.rslawards.com for more information.

What style / genre of guitar do you teach?
On Guitar I teach primarily Rock & Pop (including Rockschool music grades & music theory). I am not currently offering classical guitar tuition.

How long are lessons?
Lessons are available in 30 minute, 45 minute, or 1 hour weekly slots.

Can I have two lessons per week?
If you would like two lesson slots per week, please get in touch to discuss.

At what age can my child start learning a musical instrument?
Generally speaking, children from as young as 5 can start learning a musical instrument - if your child is under 5 please get in touch to discuss.

Do you teach group lessons?
All lessons are taught on a one-to-one individual basis. This enables me to give you my undivided attention and always yields the best results and fastest progress.

How much are lessons?
Lessons are £20 per half hour session, £30 per 45 minute session, and £40 for 1 hour. After an initial first lesson, fees are payable monthly in advance.

How do you accept payment?
For students in the UK, payment can be made via bank transfer. Most students do this quickly and easily using a mobile banking app. For international students, payment can be made via PayPal.

What happens if I miss a lesson?
If a student is unable to attend a lesson, minimum 24 hours notice is required or the lesson is chargeable. If a student does not attend a booked lesson without 24 hours prior notice they will be charged for that slot (please get in touch in exceptional circumstances eg medical emergencies).

What happens if my tutor misses a lesson?
If I am unable to attend a pre-booked lesson due to illness or an emergency you will not be charged for the missed lesson. All efforts will be made to give as much notice as possible in circumstances when I am unable to attend and a catch-up lesson can be arranged if required.

What happens if I am late for a lesson?
If a student is late for a lesson with a specifically defined time slot their lesson will unfortunately have to end at the planned time, even if this results in a shorter than normal lesson. If possible, I will attempt to make up the time but this is not guaranteed.

What happens if a student comes to a lesson without their instrument and/or music?
If 24 hours notice has not been given, the lesson will be chargeable. If a student does not have their instrument and/or music it may not be possible to complete the lesson.
